STAYING AUTHENTIC WITH SIAH

Carving his own path in the music industry and sharing the mic (& vibes!) with me this week is the incredible Siah.

South-London raised Siah has worked hard to exist in a space where he is loved for being and creating music that is 100% authentic to himself - which is a tough place to get to! He only started his music career 2 years ago but has already built up 10,000 monthly listeners and a loyal social media following.

Siah, which artists were playing around the house when you were growing up?

“I grew up in a church household, so interestingly enough I didn’t really listen to music so much growing up - if it wasn’t gospel music then there was no music at all. Influences came from specific car rides with my dad where he played jazz, Kirk Franklin and church songs.

“My first involvement with music outside of this was hanging around with my friends and freestyling whilst banging on tables rather than listening to new music.”

In terms of genres, when you see one of your songs do well, do you get tempted to continue making that style of music?

“No, I do see people put in that predicament when they experience success in a certain genre but my goal is to exist in a space where I’m able to be 100% authentic and for people to like that. I’m a versatile character, so if I choose to put out reggaeton and bashment one day then jazz the next day, I have people who are accustomed to that and actually like it.

“At the end of the day, us as humans like to be different. We like to take in different cultures and even the english language itself is composed of different cultures, so why not express myself this way in my music. When it comes to the musicality and how you feel, it’s not necessarily going to be the same every day.”
